Welcome to Desktop Labels, a sophisticated database and label management program for the Macintosh. Desktop Labels consists of two integrated modules:
1) a database for entering, sorting, and viewing names, addresses, categories, and user customizable fields
2) a label maker for creating customized labels.
With the powerful database in Desktop Labels, you can enter data, sort the data based on up to three fields, quickly locate and view any record in the database, filter the records viewed based on categories or any filter criteria you select. You can quickly import and export data to virtually any other application. You can split your database or merge it with other databases to quickly get your task accomplished. You can also customize the database with user defined fields. You can use the data in your database when printing labels.
Desktop Labels allows you to create innovative labels in minutes. Labels can contain text, graphics, and clipart. You can also easily insert data entered into the database onto your label and preview how the label will look before you print it. You can insert a built-in counter into the label that lets you automatically number labels. You can draw boxes, rounded boxes, circles, and lines in any width, color or pattern. Desktop Labels may also import graphics created with other applications.
Additionally, you can use Desktop Labels to generate many different types of bar codes. These include Postnet 5, 9, or 11 (with delivery point) digit bar codes. The delivery point is automatically calculated by Desktop Labels. You can generate EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, and Code 39 bar codes for product and inventory needs.
The combination of these features provides a single application to manage all your address book and label generation requirements.
Database Window
When you create a new database or open an existing database, the Database Window associated with that database appears.
Label Window
When you create a new label or open an existing label, the Label Window associated with that label appears. The Label Window is used to tell Desktop Labels which objects you want on your label, how they should be positioned and printed. The Label Window consists of the label drawing area and the rulers. The label drawing area is the printable portion of the label. This is the area were you place and manipulate objects for printing on each label.
In addition a Label Tool Palette appears to the right of the Label Window. The Label Tool Palette allows you to insert, modify, and view text, graphic, clipart, database field, and other field objects on a label.
Placing An Address on a Label (QuickAddress Method)
The Quick Address and Quick Address & Postnet options available via the Field tool on the Label Tool Palette are the most convenient ways to tell Desktop Labels you are defining an address label. The Quick Address options will automatically print address information from your database.
To place information on a label:
•Open a database (select Open and then Database, from the file menu). Choose one of the available databases (congress, etc.) and click Open.
•Select New and then Label, from the file menu. Select one of the templates and then click OK. You should see a label template and a toolbox.
•Click on the tool marked "Field" and then scroll to "QuickAddress".
•Move your cursor to the label template and click. You should see the word
"QuickAddress" on the template.
•Click on the "Eyeball" tool located in the toolbox.
•Move your cursor back over to the label template and click on the word "QuickAddress". The name and address of the record which is selected in your database should now appear on the label.
That's it! It's that simple to create great looking labels. Of course this is just the beginning of what you can do with Desktop Labels. The program is full of powerful features.
